Wedding Day Part XII: Friends and Family Portrait Time!

After we took formal portraits with each and every one of our guests, it was time for some alone time with just me and Mr. Lovebird (and the two photographers and videographer, of course).

So while our guests were enjoying a lovely cocktail hour on the terrace with the mariachi band, we snuck away for some pictures.

I won't bombard you with our marital bliss so here are some of our favorites!

Don't you love fisheye lenses?

Funny thing about this shot, so our first shooter, Vincent, is like, "climb over the ledge, it would make a great shot." Though hesitant, we obliged. You probably can't tell from the picture, but I was scared sh*tless of falling off the cliff and drowning (I can't swim, let alone swim in a wedding dress). It didn't help that hotel security was telling us to get off of there since it was too dangerous.

There's something about this shot I love, but I can't put my finger on it. I'm pretty sure this was taken by our second shooter, Christian.

And of course, it wouldn't be a beach wedding without the obligatory jumping shot!

Here's a little tip: If you are planning to take bride and groom portraits during the cocktail hour, see if your caterer is willing to leave the two of you (and the photographers you are feeding) out of the head count for cocktail hour. Every little bit helps right?

Of course part of me wished we could have been two places at once so that we could've enjoyed the cocktail hour with our guests. I heard the horderves were delish and I didn't get to try any! I wonder if cocktail hour was created for the sole purpose of allowing the bride and groom to have some "alone" time before the reception...

Wedding Day Part XI: Wrapping Up the Ceremony

All along, I knew that, for me, a wedding "must" was to take a formal picture with each and every one of my guests.

I'm don't want to bombard the hive with all the formal portraits, so here are a few of my favorites:

Aren't fish-eye lenses great for group shots? Here's one with the Lovebirds kissing.

Yes, the formal portraits were time consuming and kinda hectic cuz we had to shuffle people around quickly, but it was totally worth it. This was the only way I could guarantee that I had a picture of each and every one of the wonderful guests at my wedding. When I look back on this day years from now, I'll clearly remember each and every face that made our wedding so special with their presence.

I know I've been a bad little birdy and I'm so sorry! Things have been pretty busy around the Lovebird nest and I'm finally coming up for some air. Mr. Lovebird's on call tonight so I finally have a chance to blog! Oh weddingbee, how I've missed you!

So after the blooper that occurred in my previous post, it was pretty much smooth sailing from there.

The ceremony literally flew by! Well considering it was less than 15 minutes from processional to recessional, that's not too surprising right? It felt just right for us, but I was shocked to actually find out how short it was when I watched the video. That's a pretty short wedding ceremony right?

Wedding/T.V. Season

Doesn't everything seem wedding related when you are planning your own wedding. Well my own wedding planning is a thing of the past, but Weddingbee keeps my passion/obsession alive and well.

Heck, I'm watching the season finale of Lost and got the most excited when I realized the location where they shot Sun and Jin's wedding was our own Mrs. Sushi's ceremony venue! Then I proceeded to make a comment to Mr. Lovebird about how Sun's dress was gorgeous, especially the back...He was not amused.

Can you believe it's made of cheese??? Miss D'orsay mentioned them in her post a couple of weeks ago. The trend started a few years ago in England and is becoming quite popular in the U.S.

Here's a helpful diagram I found from this U.K. cheese shop.

Depending on the cheeses you use, you could save money over the conventional baked wedding cake. Let's say you already have a dessert bar at your wedding, serving this would be a nice contrast, don't you think? I loves me some good brie at a wedding.

Wedding Day Part IX: The Ceremony

I have to admit, I didn't put much thought into the ceremony itself. About one week before the wedding, I asked my brother to officiate the wedding. Kind of short notice and I didn't give him much direction except link him to Mrs. Penguin's post for some ideas. He also lives in Miami, so he couldn't run anything by me until we met up in Cancun two days before the wedding day. While we were in Cancun, he was always like, "Can we go over the ceremony together?" I was always preoccupied with something, i.e., making sure all my guests we happy, eating, etc...I kept telling my brother, "Don't worry, it'll be great, you don't have to run anything by me, I trust you." At one point, I told him, "Why don't you run it by Mr. Lovebird, cuz I would be fine with anything you said. He might have input". So poor guy tracks down Mr. Lovebird in the resort, who was probably preoccupied with pool basketball and other shenanigans with the groomsmen, and gets told, "Anything you want to say is fine."

Result... poor Brother Lovebird is stressing out the whole time leading up to the wedding and manages to catch me and the bridesmaids in the bridal suite a couple of hours before the wedding is supposed to start, with his macbook in tow. He reads me what he has down so far, which of course bring tears to my eyes and manages to get a few more insider tidbits to add to his speech. You could tell he put an immense amount of thought and time into the speech, which was not only heartfelt, but included so many great moments from our 7 and a half year courtship, many that I had forgotten about until my brother brought it up. Basically, we finished the ceremony speech moments before the wedding was about to start.

As evidenced here by my BMs copying his speech moments before the ceremony started.

I had to literally shoo him out of the room so he could get ready himself. I handed him the vows to hold onto and sent him on his way. Poor guy was so stressed about the speech, maybe even more than I was the whole day.

Everything was going as planned. Until....dun dun dun....

Brother Lovebird: "Yili and May have written their own vows and will now share them."

::: Silence :::

I turn to Brother Lovebird: "You have them right?"

Look of complete horror comes across Brother Lovebird's face.

All I could do was laugh! What do you guys love more? An ugly cry face bride or an ugly laugh face bride?

Below you can see him fanning out his speech as he frantically looked to see if they were on there somewhere and to show that's all he had on him.

The whole time he's giving death stares to my cousin Denise the bridesmaid who was responsible for giving him the speech before the ceremony started. Here's shes like, "I was only supposed to give you the speech, we already gave you the vows back in the room."

After I was finally able to stop laughing, I handed the microphone over to Mr. Lovebird. I love the picture below cuz it shows the horrified look on my brother's face.

Mr. Lovebird: "Uh uh uh, I guess I'll wing it." And wing it we did. The reason we wrote the vows down was because both of us didn't want to bother memorizing it.

Here he's probably thinking, "Damn it, what did I write?"

To be honest, the whole time Mr. Lovebird was doing the vows, I was trying to memorize what he was saying. You see, one of the few responsibilities I gave Mr. Lovebird was to write our vows. Which he singly handedly did days before the wedding. And it was a great job I might add. Short and sweet and very us. I read it once and just printed a copy out and brought it to Cancun. The night before the wedding, crafty BM Michelle took two sheets of the gocco'd place cards and some ribbon and created a little booklet for our vows. The booklets were about the size of a credit card. I guess when I gave them to my brother before the wedding, he was too stressed about officiating that he wasn't paying attention to what I gave him and it wasn't obvious that the little orange things I gave him contained our vows.

Needless to say, I had a really hard time having only read the vows once before and trying really hard to remember what Mr. Lovebird said just moments before. They weren't the most eloquent vows, but they were still special. At least it made the ceremony interesting, right? Everyone got a good laugh out of it.

The next day, Brother Lovebird comes to our room and hands me the little orange booklets. "Turns out they were on the table in my room the whole time. I guess you did give them to me afterall."

I have to figure out how to upload parts of the professional wedding video so you can see the actual ceremony, but here's some footage our friend Kevin took in the meantime for your enjoyment. It's around the 1:40 marker.

Everytime we watch our wedding video or when we look through our wedding photos, we always laugh at how utterly horrified my brother looked. I glad things happened the way they did. I wouldn't have changed it for the world.

Lash Envy

I always tell Mr. Lovebird that the only feature of his that I am jealous of are his long plush eye lashes. Albeit his droop down naturally to cover his tiny Asian eyes, but if I had those puppies, I would certainly make them shine! One of the first things I notice about a person are their eyelashes. I've got crazy lash envy. Heck, I'm even especially jealous of babies who all seem to have more plush lashes than me!

That being said, I always knew fake lashes were a must for my wedding day!

Now that the wedding is over, it doesn't mean my lash envy has ended. I saw something on tv yesterday that peaked my interest and thought other lash-challenged ladies around the hive would find interesting.

What is it you ask? Well it's Latisee™...

Sounds like the answer to my prayers, but I won't be making an appointment anytime soon since I not one to jump on drugs just approved by the FDA. I thought it was just some new makeup the celebrities were endorsing, but its a full fledged prescription drug only available through your doctor.

Still....pretty interesting, no?

Wedding Day Part VII: Here Comes The Bride

After what seemed like an eternity, it was finally time for us to get married! Well, it wasn't an eternity, more like seven and half years later...

Okay buddy, this is it!

Dude, I've never seen you smile so big before.

I asked my brother about a week before the wedding if he would be our officiant...more on that later.

Man I loved how the flowers looked.

My lovely ladies.

I left it up to the parents whether or not they wanted wanted their kids to sit down with them after they walked down the aisle. But I guess the kids didn't want to miss out on a front row view of the action.

When I first saw this picture, I was like, what the hell is framing the kids? I don't remember red columns. Then I realized it was the bridesmaid dresses, which were actually tangerine colored. They seemed to change color depending on the sun, so cool.

And my guests looked on...

Hey George! Did you fall asleep??? The whole ceremony was less than 6 minutes long for pete's sake!

Trust me, you guys want to stick around for the next part. Let's just say something kinda important was forgotten and it made for a pretty funny ceremony. Care to guess what it was?
